A Matter Of Time And Actions

This project is kind of different from my other artworks but it means a lot to me and I really want to make people think about this problematic situation of our planet.

The clock is ticking. This painting shows a tropical rainforest, depicted as a clock. The forest is dying over time. You see the fiery watch hands destroying more and more of this tropical paradise.

Our tropical rainforests are vulnerable to human impacts like deforestation, climate change (warming and droughts) and fire. These species-rich treasures are at risk of vanishing irreversibly if more and more conversion for example to pastures and plantations takes place. If a critical point (tipping point) is exceeded, the forest can no longer generate enough rainfall to sustain itself. The consequence is a downward spiral of continuous forest loss.

Also exceeding a critical daily air temperature will sooner or later cause irreversible dieback. The consequences for the global carbon cycle and our global climate would be devastated. Some experts say the tipping point is still 15 to 20 years away, others say it is nearer in time!

It is just a matter of time IF we continue to treat the lung of the earth like that and IF we do not urgently rethink the way we are exploiting sensitive ecosystems. So it’s not only a matter of time, but also strongly dependent on our deeds.

It is extremely important to restore as much tropical forest area as possible AND slow down climate warming. Protecting tropical rainforests also means protection of our global climate stability!!

I've picked some (of many) charitable organizations, which I deem effective as an example. Feel free to donate if you want to:
